My Life on the Farm
I am Makennah Lavy, I am 10 ½ years old and the granddaughter of Chuck and Beth Lavy the owners of Sugar Creek Piedmontese. My family, Steven (dad), Megan (mom) and Parker (my little sister), live on the back side of the family farm, about 5 minutes from their house. Gi papa and Gigi (my grandma’s parents) also live just down the road and are part of the family farm. My uncle Philip, aunt Liz & cousin Anastasia also lives just 10 minutes from the farm. I love that everyone lives close and can help.
I love going to the farm as much possible and that is very often. I love it when the calves are being born. They let me help with keeping record of each calf born, their weigh, and tag number. Feeding time can be hard work, we must fill buckets with the grain we get from the brewery. We then take it to the different groups of cattle to hand feed. I help gather the eggs. The sheep are kept at Gigi’s farm, but still must be feed.
I really love it when I can go to the Farmers Market with my grandma. Meeting the customers and selling the Piedmontese beef, lamb, & chicken products is fun. Going has taught me how to handle money and make change. I have also gotten better at talk to strangers about our farm and what makes us special. More about me and the farm coming soon.
